If you are like most of us in the working world, you may have considered starting a home based business. You may have wondered what will it take to start or what you should look for as you compare different opportunities. Maybe I can help a little and offer a few things for you to consider before choosing what business you want to commit to.

First, I would decide on how much time and effort you WILL put into your business on a daily basis. Any legitimate business will require you to market your product. Some will make the process as automated as possible, but there will be work for you to do. If any "opportunity" says you don’t have to do anything, then RUN away as fast as you can. You will lose money and have nothing to show for it. Having said that, I do recommend that you choose a business that assists with process. If you are like me then your time is valuable. If you can find a system that will help with follow up, or any portion of the sale, then they might be worth taking a good look at.

The next one ties into the first one...Sales! I hate sales, most likely you do too! 98% of the worlds population is horrible at it. Unless you are a professional salesperson, I would bet that you are not any good at it either. Look for a system that will help you close your sales. That alone is worth any investment it will take to start your business. Not to mention that it will save you time. If you are calling leads and closing sales, then you are not marketing and promoting your business. Having said that, it is YOUR business. As you grow and learn, you should get comfortable with closing your own sales. After all, only you are responsible for your success!

Training is the next item up for discussion. Make sure that the system has world class training. When I got started, I had no idea about how to market anything, let alone try and make a living at it. As you research the different business opportunities, look at what training they offer. You should find the one who offers the most up to date marketing training and methods. The Internet is massive and there are countless ways of marketing to countless numbers of people around the world. If you don’t know what you are doing or do not have a training system in place then your best efforts will go unnoticed and your business will FAIL!

Most importantly, you must find a community of like minded people who are achieving the success you desire. "Guilty by association"... I’m sure you have heard that before. If you surround yourself by entrepreneurs who are succeeding in your opportunity then you will begin to mirror their success. If you constantly plug into what they are teaching and applying what they suggest to you, then you will begin to see your business grow. Walk like them, talk like them, pretty soon, you will be successful like them! If you can copy their success, then you will be the next one to be copied. How great is that!

These are some of the obstacles that I considered when deciding which business I was going to invest in. I spent a lot of time researching companies that offered the above benefits and finally made the decision to jump in head first. I couldn’t be happier. I hope you find the right fit for you and who knows...maybe we will work together some day!
